Optimising your backups with Backup Exec

I’m very often called in to find out why a backup has suddenly stopped working. I am, however, never called in to optimize or improve performance on backups. Unfortunately for my customers as with a little forward planning and a touch of optimization, many of the data backup problems can be circumvented completely or, at least, planned for.

Whilst setting up a new backup system for a customer I happened upon the following article which I find very useful:

Trouble shooting NTFRS (File Replication) of sysvol /policies

This one was irritating!
The policies were just not replicating between the two servers.
I fixed it in the end using the BURFLAG setting D4 for the value on the function server and D2 on the malfunctioning.
The following article explains how to do this.

Trouble shooting replicaion problems

This was a nightmare of a problem. I have sat here in front of the PC for hours and hours – emptying massive amounts of bad quality Norwegian Friela coffee down my throat and slowly bit by bit working this problem.
I have two sites and the replication just would not work. I found the following link invaluable in helping me to work through this issue.
